Presenting our next Keynote Speakers

Dear reader

We now proudly present our next two Keynote Speakers at the International Gentle Teaching Conference 2025 - Ingelis Arnsbjerg and Niels Bonnerup.

Ingelis Arnsbjerg

Is an occupational therapist specializing in sensory processing and sensory health. She has studied and worked in Denmark and the USA for over 30 years.

At the conference, Ingelis' presentation will introduce Dr. Stephen Porges' Polyvagal Theory and how the theory can be applied to individuals with special needs as well as professionals and caregivers. It will highlight how the theory neurobiologically supports Gentle Teaching as a relational pedagogy, where a felt sense of safety is the foundation of human contact and interaction.

The presentation will focus on the importance of self-care and self-regulation among professionals providing special education, therapeutic, psychological, and caregiving support to individuals with neurodivergence and disabilities.

Niels Bonnerup

Works as a special consultant at Sødisbakke and has extensive experience and skills in special education. Additionally, he has training in neuro-pedagogy, mentalization and trauma, polyvagal theory, dementia, innovation, violence prevention, and Gentle Teaching.

Niels' presentation will focus on how care services for citizens with mental disabilities in Denmark have changed radically in recent years. This requires a way of working with safety, connectedness, meaning, and engagement in care services within the framework of public governance and demands for transparency and evidence.

In the Area for Adults with Developmental Disabilities (OVUS), we are currently experimenting with different ways of working with the pillars of Gentle Teaching in a transparent and evidence-based manner. The presentation will show some of the methods we are working with.
